The Motor Awards 2018: Vote for your best city car / small car of the year
What is it they say about small packages?
VOTING is open in the inaugural Sunday Times Motor Awards sponsored by Bridgestone.
We’ve used our motoring writers’ expert knowledge to produce shortlists of our top vehicles on sale this year, but most of the winners will be decided by you.
The winners, including the coveted Sunday Times Car of the Year and Jeremy Clarkson Car of the Year, will be announced at a star-studded event in October.
Here you can see the 2018 City/Small Car of the Year presented by Virgin Radio contenders, and click through to vote for your favourites. Even better, by voting, you could win a holiday for two in Dubai.
Making the shortlist in the commuter car category are the Ford Fiesta, Kia Picanto, Mini 5dr, Suzuki Swift and VW Polo.
Our panel of experts looked for models that are great for nipping about town but don’t comprising on quality, refinement, fun factor and style.
Ford Fiesta
The Fiesta is Britain’s best-selling car for good reason: it’s better to drive than any other small car. The latest model adds a more upmarket interior to make it a more complete package.
Kia Picanto
The Picanto might be small but it make a serious amount of sense. Competitively priced, good to drive, practical enough for four people and affordable to run, it even comes with the reassurance of a seven-year warranty.
Mini Hatch 5-door
When it comes to looking stylish about town, no other small car cuts a dash like the Mini. And drivers will have as much fun personalising theirs as they will getting behind the wheel and nipping through the traffic.
Suzuki Swift
By make the latest Swift slightly lower and shorter, Suzuki’s engineers have helped it shed more than 100kg in weight. That makes it frugal at the pumps and fun to drive.
VW Polo
In the sixth generation model, the Polo goes from strength to strength. This remains the small car with the big-car feel.
