2016 Porsche 911 Turbo revealed

IF THERE’S one thing the Porsche 911 Turbo has never been short of, it’s power. And if there’s another thing the Porsche 911 Turbo has never been short of, it’s performance. So it should come as no surprise that the revamped 911 Turbo is a frisky little beast.

Priced £126,925 for a standard Turbo coupé and £145,773 for a Turbo S, the revised model is on sale now.

As before, it is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six twin-turbo engine, which now boasts 532bhp in standard specification and 572bhp in the S model.

The base model can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in three seconds, and the S shaves that down to 2.9 seconds; their top speeds are 198mph and 205mph respectively.

Helping to satisfy drivers’ varying tastes is the choice of four driving modes, including one that can be configured to the user’s preferences. A Sport Response button on the steering wheel preconditions the engine and PDK gearbox for bursts of maximum acceleration.

Both versions have the revised bodywork that first appeared on the standard 911, revealed in September. They also get Porsche active suspension management as standard, and the S comes with dynamic chassis control, which prevents body roll, and high-performance ceramic brakes.

More practical features include the optional radar-based lane-change monitor, which warns the driver of cars hidden in the Turbo’s blind spots, and the ability to raise the nose of the car by 40mm at the touch of a button — useful for speed bumps or car park ramps. A Bose audio system is standard, but buyers can choose a more powerful Burmester setup.

The modest makeover of the 911 Turbo will be shown in public for the time at the Detroit motor show next month.
