Google’s driverless cars in new collision

CRASH, BANG, Google: the internet search giant has admitted that another of its self-driving cars has been in a collision. The crash is the 12th involving the hi-tech cars since Google began testing them six years ago.

The company’s co-founder, Sergey Brin, admitted the accident during an exchange with shareholders last week, at which he was forced to defend the record of his cars: “We don’t claim that the cars are going to be perfect. Our goal is to beat human drivers.”

The latest mishap occurred when the Google car was rear-ended while waiting for a traffic light to change. None of the dozen crashes has been described as serious, and the majority have occurred in similar circumstances. In other words, according to Google, all the accidents have been the other, human drivers’ fault.
