News: Council paints double-yellow lines just 9in apart

Council admits it looks “absurd”

UK's shortest double-yellow lines

A COUNCIL has apologised after contractors painted double-yellow lines in a gap just 9in wide.

The two lines are between a taxi rank and parking bays in Caxton Street, central London. They are just far enough apart to park a toy car.

Leith Penny of Westminster City Council admitted the lines were a mistake: “We can see how absurd this looks and will make sure it is corrected.”

It’s not the first time over-zealous contractors have gone “barking mad” with a yellow paint brush. Earlier this year, line painters in Swindon put double yellow lines along an alleyway that was too narrow for a car, while in Nottingham they put double-yellow lines down a cycle path.
