Police arrest terror suspect in car crash outside the Houses of Parliament

Nearby roads and Westminster Tube station have been closed off

A CAR crash outside of the Houses of Parliament is being treated as a terrorist incident, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

At 7:37am earlier this morning, a driver of a silver Ford Fiesta is reported to have struck pedestrians and cyclists near the London landmark, before crashing into security barriers.

Miraculously, no one is reported to have been killed in the crash, though the constabulary did confirm two are having their injuries treated in hospital. None of the wounds are said to be life-threatening at time of writing.

The driver of the silver Ford was arrested at the scene by armed officers, and has since been detained at a police station in south London.

It was revealed the Met Police are treating the crash as a terrorist incident, with the force’s Counter Terrorism Unit currently undertaking the investigation.

As a result of the investigation in the area, the Westminster London Underground station was temporarily closed. Roads in the vicinity will also remain cordoned off “for some time”, and extra police officers will be deployed in and around central London in response to the crash too.

The Metropolitan Police urges anyone with information that could aid the investigation should call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321. Anyone with photographs or footage of the incident are also asked to submit them to the police via www.ukpoliceimageappeal.co.uk.
