Apps: Google's music apps
The lowdown on Google's three premium music player apps
Google Play Music
£9.99 a month, Android, Apple
Google has three paid-for music services. Play, the oldest, offers 40m songs, has a free version (with ads) and stores 50,000 of your own MP3s online.
YouTube Music
£9.99 a month, Android, Apple
Google owns YouTube and this new app turns it into what will eventually replace Play: millions of tracks, and it runs in the background (so doesn’t hog the screen with a video).
YouTube Premium
£11.99 a month, Android, Apple
It used to be called Red; now it’s Premium — a music streaming service with extras such as video downloads, ad-free background playback and exclusive shows.
