Lorry driver jailed for 22 months after reversing into police officers
The 'horrendous display of dangerous driving' injured five police officers
THE DRIVER of a stolen lorry has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for deliberately reversing the goods vehicle into police officers, injuring five of them.
Irfan Mohammed will be jailed for 22 months for dangerous driving while being pursued by cops through Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, making at least two attempts to reverse into the police.
The force of one shunt was enough to push the car into two other police vehicles that were involved in the chase. In total, West Mercia Police says five officers were injured as a result of Mohammed’s “horrendous display of dangerous driving”.
Amazingly, given the size of the HGV, officers were able to bring the chase to a close through the use of “tactical contact” — pulling alongside the lorry and ramming into it.
According to court documents, Mohammed pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to charges of dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.
He will also be banned from driving for the next five years and 11 months. and will need to pass a practical driving test before being allowed back on the roads.
